Description

This is my entry for the Eatpoo Tarot Card Project, which I'm coordinating. The Tarot Project involves around 100 artists from Eatpoo forums illustrating the cards of the tarot deck. For more information and over 60 more cards, check out http://tarot.eatpoo.com.

This card encompasses the extremes between the 'haves' and 'have-nots.' It's patronage and generosity, with all the strings attached, power plays and subtle domination. It is the rich man who gains smugness, prestige and inflated ego through giving alms, or the receiver who now has money but unwanted obligation. It is the fluctuating dynamics of power and resources. All parties included need to re-evaluate their motives and situation. Can also signify charity, philanthropy and coercion.

The painting took a very long time to do, and unfortunately suffers from some composition problems. I learnt a lot from the experience, however.
